Hungary joined the World Heritage Agreement in 1985 and incorporated it into Hungarian law in the form of a Regulation. The World Heritage Committee decided on the registering of two Hungarian sites, Budapest and Hollókő in the World Heritage List two years later in 1987. Since the summer of 2002 our homeland, this small country of 93 thousand square metres, is proud to have eight World Heritage Sites. Seven of our sites got registered in the cultural and natural treasure categories. Two of our cultural landscape sites (the Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst and the Fertő / Neusiedlersee cultural landscape) are transboundary properties of Hungary, Austria and Slovakia.
